SuperLoveTees, Interview with Co-Founder Theresa Roth

SuperLoveTees, Interview with Co-Founder Theresa Roth

Several years ago, a retreat leader at the Tailwind Jungle Lodge gifted me a shirt that said in big bold letters “LET YOUR LOVE SHINE.” I immediately fell in love—with the shirt and the message! Over the years, my collection of SuperLoveTees has expanded. My wardrobe favorites say,“no mud, no lotus” (Thich Nhat Hanh) and “what you are seeking is seeking you” (Rumi). They’re not just clothes, they’re how I set my positive intention for the day. You’ll love this interview with SuperLoveTee founder Theresa Roth.

Empowering Students & Graduates of All Demographics

Empowering Students & Graduates of All Demographics

It's an unusual time for students and graduates globally. Students of all demographics have been through months of home-schooling, online classes and now virtual graduations. SO much challenge and uncertainty for youth, BUT it's also an exciting time to be a student or graduate. We believe that BLM and in the incredible power of all students (any color, age, origin or background, may we all be equals!). Students have an opportunity to re-imagining the future, to learn from the economic and social collapses of spring 2020, to adapt and become stronger (and healthier!).

Wildpreneurs is the book I wish I could have read when I was a student (both high-school and college age). Wildpreneurs is here to support students and graduates with unleashing their daydreams, exploring possibilities and empowering them to design their lives—personally and professionally.

Erin Outdoors: Stories From The Road & The Trail

Erin Outdoors: Stories From The Road & The Trail

I’m delighted that my collaboration with REI has led me to connect with Erin Sullivan—travel writer, photographer and host of In Our Nature series (with REI and Wondercamp productions). Erin believes images and words have the power to inspire meaningful change. She is clearly a brilliant Wildpreneur! “There are no straight paths.” she says. “Have patience with yourself, and also cultivate trust within yourself. Don’t just hope for the best, plan for it as much as you can.”

After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts & Environmental Studies in 2012, Erin spent three years living out of her backpack, traveling and leading teen adventure programs in 9 countries. Her love for personal growth through travel and the outdoors led her to start a blog, and later come back to photography. She is now a full-time travel photographer and writer, focusing on stories of culture, wildlife, and conservation.

New Beginnings & Courage With Sanni McCandless

New Beginnings & Courage With Sanni McCandless

“We'll never suddenly be “ready” and move forward without making a single mistake. In fact, I think it can be dangerous to let “readiness” hold us back from trying out something new. I always like to say, you'll know 100x more than you do right now after you've gotten version one out the door.” — Sanni McCandless

I was intrigued by Sanni McCandless in the Oscar-Winning documentary Free Solo. In the film, Alex Honnold tackles Yosemite’s iconic El Captain…just him and the rock, no ropes or equipment. Though Alex is the star of the show, Sanni’s peaceful presence resonated with me deeply. I whole-heartedly admire (and aspire!) towards her courage and ability to stay calm and balanced through intensity, extreme challenge and fear. Sanni naturally embodies the wisdom that she shares in her interview below: “Acknowledge that fear and doubt exist and choose to move forward anyway.”

Now is Prime Time for Daydreams

Now is Prime Time for Daydreams

After months at home the days are starting to blur together. I’m moving more slowly. No need to rush, no hurry. Life has become relatively simple. I’ve been doing plenty of rolling around on the floor with my 6-month-old. Playing with grandma and grandpa too! We listen to the birds, gaze at the trees, watch for butterflies. My mind wanders.

Part of me feels guilty. An inner voice admonishes, “Stop being lazy, you should be making progress, get back to doing (fill in the blank).”

“Shhh!” I respond to that nagging voice. “Be quiet, I’m daydreaming!”

I’ve learned from experience that this slowing down is valuable. We’ve been gifted a mindfulness pause and it’s prime time for letting the dreams flow. This is where the magic happens. We have an opportunity to go slower and explore our wild ideas; to visualize a new future. This unusual time may allow us to reconnect with our imaginations, individually and as families. Daydreamers aren’t limited by geographic restrictions, we can go anywhere!

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere,” said Einstein.

Leisha Davis, Founder of Mindful Mama Living

You know those people who you feel naturally drawn to? Those free-spirits who radiate a high vibration that is beautifully magnetic. Makes you think “I want what they’re having…”

Leisha Davis is one of those Wildpreneurs. As a new mom, Leisha’s wisdom resonates particularly deeply with me (jungle baby Zephyr is now 6 months!). However, her approach and insights around mindfulness are invaluable to all Wildpreneurs.

Jungle Baby's Advice: Digital Wellness in a Virtual World

Jungle Baby's Advice: Digital Wellness in a Virtual World

Ever feel like your phone has become an extension of your arm? Though our social calendars have cleared, our headspace is being filled with infinite virtual opportunities. This is a blessing and a real challenge. During this stay-at-home period of time, we’re all Wildpreneurs—we’re adapting to unknown territory and making decisions about how to manage our time personally and professionally. With this new “normal” how will we manage our relationships with our devices?

The other day I noticed my 6-month-old son Zephyr watching me: fascinated with the device that consumes so much of my attention. If baby Zephyr could talk, he would probably ask, “Why can’t we just watch the trees? They’re far more interesting than that unnatural thing you’re always staring at.” Check out baby Zephyr’s tips for digital wellness.

Fear of the Unknown

Fear of the Unknown

We’re all facing it right now — the unknown. With this new territory comes fear. Is this a bad thing? No, in fact, it’s a gateway.

Fear is a healthy emotion.

“Fear is a universal experience. Even the smallest insect feels it. We wade in the tidal pools and put our finger near the soft open bodies of sea anemones and they close up. It’s part of being alive. Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth.”

Featured Wildpreneur: Mary McIntyre, Freelance Writer & Photographer

Mary melds the worlds of culture and adventure travel through photography and writing. Skiing is her passion, but any outdoor activity gets her stoked — rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, and mountain biking keep her busy year-round. Mary’s recent trip to Iceland was cut a bit short (we’re all adapting in this unusual time) so she took a moment during her 2 week self-quarantine to share some of her Wildpreneur inspiration . Gracias Mary!

Book tour with baby (from TV interviews to skiing!)

Book tour with baby (from TV interviews to skiing!)

Book tour with baby has been a wonderful adventure so far. We certainly maximized on our time in Vancouver. Such a treat to stay with family as we bounced between TV interviews and cross country skis! Check out the slideshow below for a glimpse of our adventures. With our crazy schedule I don’t have much time to write so photos will have to suffice for now. Also be sure to check out my interview on CBC (Canadian national TV) here and CTV (Vancouver) here.

Jungle Baby's Birth Story

Jungle Baby's Birth Story

Oct. 21, 2019

We thought it was going to be an ordinary jungle day. We were wrong.

(But really, does “ordinary” ever happen in the jungle?)

Dawn. Monsoon rains soaked the jungle canopy throughout the night. At sunrise I waddled (38 weeks pregnant) through the sticky/sweet humid air to the muddy car, prepared for a journey into Puerto Vallarta for a standard prenatal OB appointment with Dr. Laura Garcia. Walter (my Tarzan) carefully chauffeured us on the delightfully lush yet horrifically bumpy road to San Pancho. A 3-mile jungle road that ordinarily takes 15 minutes was a radically different for a pregnant passenger—nearly an hour of jostling as I cradled my beach ball belly and used my swollen feet to brace through the bumps and cobblestones. Pregnant in the jungle…what have I gotten myself into? Am I completely crazy? This is certainly not the first time I’ve wondered about sanity and Wildpreneur lifestyle! Trust the flow, I reassured myself, as I’ve done countless times before.

Javier Chavez - Wildmex

Javier Chavez - Wildmex

We met in Boulder, CO in 2008. We both had a dream…
“What’s your business idea?” I’d asked Javier.
“I’m starting a surf school and mountain bike tours,” he responded with a grin. “It’s called Wildmex.”
“Sweet!” I exclaimed, “where?”
“Sayulita, heard of it?”
“What?! Really?! I’m building my eco-lodge in San Pancho, just north of Sayulita. We’re neighbors!” I said excitedly.
An thus began our friendship as Wildpreneurs. Over a decade later, both of our businesses are still thriving and Javier is a truly inspirational Wildpreneur. Here’s a glimpse at Javier’s interview.

A Wildpreneur Love Ceremony (Wedding Alternative!)

A Wildpreneur Love Ceremony (Wedding Alternative!)

Why not apply Wildpreneur philosophy to relationships and love? We live by our own set of rules!

Excerpt from Wildpreneurs, Chapter 9- Where’s Tarzan?

“The free-spirited life of a Wildpreneur is full. Who has time for candlelight, flowers . . . amor? Business drive and romance don’t always jive. The human heart is mysterious and complex, but we all crave love from that special someone . . . a Tarzan or Jane to join us in our wildness? But how to find Tarzan or Jane? And once we’ve found him or her, how to keep that relationship healthy and vibrant? As with other aspects of Wildpreneurship, we must embrace the journey of romantic love with an adventurous spirit.”

I found my Tarzan :). See our love ceremony photos and philosophy…

Jungle Home - Palapa Bambino

Jungle Home - Palapa Bambino

For those of you who’ve stayed with us at the lodge, you may recall that “the office” is not only a place where you can meet your hosts, it’s also our jungle tiny home. I lived in a tent for 5 years as we built the lodge and was delighted to move into this 20 x 20 ft studio/casita/office. However, after a decade of office living, we decided that we probably needed a bit more space to accommodate our growing family (jungle bambino due in November!).

SO, we finally broke ground on the construction of the Palapa Bambino in May with master builder Jose Luis (from Lo De Marcos) in charge. The Palapa Bambino is an extension off the side of the office and includes a blissfully large deck across the front. We are already delighted with this new addition and are eager to make it a home for baby in November.

Check out this little photo slideshow of the Palapa Bambino as it comes to life. We’ll be adding more photos upon completion so be sure to check back soon!

Tiny Home Wildpreneur

Tiny Home Wildpreneur

Ever stayed in a tiny home? Or perhaps you’ve thought of building one? Small, creatively designed living spaces—retrofitted vans, treehouses, sailboats and tiny homes in all shapes in sizes—are extremely popular with minimalist Wildpreneurs.

I recently purchased a piece of land in Ridgway Colorado with my brother—fellow free-spirited Wildpreneur builder/designer, Rhett Jacobi. In true Wildpreneur fashion, we’re now diving into the daydreaming stage of what to create…

Wildpreneur Manifesto

Wildpreneur Manifesto

For Wildpreneurs, the lines between work, life, love and play are often blurred. My most profound wildpreneur ideas are often hatched when I’m frolicking in Mother Nature’s playground. On a back-country tour in the Colorado Rockies recently I hiked through wildflowers, skinned up spring snow and as I skied down (bliss!) my brain composed this Wildpreneur manifesto. May this spark your inspiration and guide your life as a free-spirited Wildpreneur!
